about Marshall; or indeed why we were arguing 
about him. I find it quite hard to explain.

On the other hand, who knows what happens in 
the future? I mean, look at what’s happened to 
Karl Marx. Twenty years ago he was one of the 
titans of history and now everybody laughs when 
we mention his name. So, I don’t actually know 
what people will think about McLuhan. At the very 
least, if people are studying our period, they will 
say this was one of the livelier minds.
